Elementary Music and Band

In Elementary Music, students will learn an appreciation for music through basic music theory, music play, dance, and performance.

 

2024-2025 performance dates:

October 12th: Surround the State in Song Bismarck, ND (5th/6th only)

December 5th : Washburn Elementary Christmas Concert 7:00PM

March 1st : McLean County Music Festival (5th-8th) ***All Day***

May 1st : Washburn Spring Concert 7:00PM

May 26th : Memorial Day Program 10:00AM

 

What will I learn in band?

5th Grade Band:
 

In 5th Grade band you will learn how to assemble your instrument, care for and maintain your instrument, count, clap, and play notes and rhythms in the treble and bass clef staff. 

 

Students in 5th grade band will learn to play their first notes in simple key signatures in 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4 time. Students final test for 5th grade band will be the Bb major scale. 

 

There are four major performances during the school year. In August, December, a solo and ensemble contest in March, and final concert in May.

 

Students in band are graded on participation, practice journals, playing tests, pencil and equipment checks, and concert attendance. 

 

6th Grade Band:
 

In 6th Grade band you will review all learning from 5th grade as well as learn how to count, clap, and play in more complex keys signatures and time signatures. 

 

Students in 6th grade will add 2/2 and 6/8 time signatures to what they learned last year. Students will also master Bb, Eb, F, and Ab scale and arpeggios. The final test for 6th grade will be the Bb chromatic scale.

  • Morning Lessons are available Tuesday and Thursday Morning from 7:30 - 8:00am 

  • Afternoon Lessons are available Monday - Friday from 3:30-4:00.

  • Open practice is available most days after school.

  • Lessons can be used to make up for missing practice sheets, boosting a low test grade, boosting your grade in general, or just to become a better player. 

  • Take a lesson with a friend or by yourself
